Lucas Beaufort saapui Suomeen Common Line Tourin viimeistä etappia varten. Kahdeksan kohteen, satojen laskijoiden, yhteistyöprojektien ja maalaussessioiden jälkeen hän saapui Leville.
Seuraavat kaksi päivää täyttyivät intensiivisestä luovasta energiasta, hyvästä fiiliksestä ja syvällisistä keskusteluista lumilautailun ydinarvoista. Jollain tavalla Lucas tuntuu tuovan ihmisistä esiin heidän parhaat puolensa — oli kyse sitten luontevasta tavasta yhdistää ihmisiä, jakaa ajatuksiaan tai hypeyttää muita kokeilemaan uusia temppuja laudalla. Lopputulos on aina sama: hän rohkaisee ihmisiä toimimaan ja luomaan vapaasti ilman pelkoa arvostelusta.
Kahden päivän ajan oli todella virkistävää olla osa tuollaista energiaa.

Synnyin Cannesissa, Ranskan Rivieralla vuonna 1981.
Olivatko vanhempasi taiteellisia?
Isäni ei tee taidetta, mutta äitini maalasi aina öljyvärillä maisemia. Vaikka pidin siitä mitä hän maalasi, maisemamaalaus ei ollut oma juttuni, koska olin enemmän kiinnostunut skeittauksesta ja vastakulttuurin estetiikasta.
Milloin aloit luomaan taidetta?
Aloin maalata todella myöhään, 27-vuotiaana — älä kysy miksi 🙂 Oli jouluaika ja halusin tehdä jotain veljelleni. Piirsin kuvan, kehystin sen, ja siitä kaikki lähti lumipallon tavoin liikkeelle. Joku näki sen, sitten tuli sosiaalinen media, ja kaikki kehittyi nopeasti.
Milloin aloitit lumilautailun?
Aloitin lumilautailun teini-ikäisenä vuonna 1995 skeittauksen kautta. Aloitin skeittauksen vuonna 1994, ja lumilautailu tuli pian sen jälkeen. Oli pieni kauppa nimeltä LSD, jossa näin lumilaudan ensimmäistä kertaa enkä ymmärtänyt mikä se oli. Liftasin laskettelukeskukseen ja rakensin itse hyppyreitä, koska minulla ei ollut varaa hissilippuihin.
Ketkä inspiroivat sinua teini-ikäisenä lumilauta kulttuurissa?
Kasvaessani inspiraationi tulivat paikallisista laskijoista ja ihmisistä. Sekä taiteessa että lumilautailussa katsoin ylöspäin ympärilläni olevia ihmisiä. Ensimmäinen lumilautailija jonka muistan oli Terje, ja näin Volcomin Subjekt Haakonsen-videon. Se räjäytti täysin tajuntani, koska se oli niin hullua ja tyylikästä. Se todella teki suuren vaikutuksen!
Miten kuvailisit taidettasi?
En pidä siitä, että taiteeni lokeroidaan tai sille annetaan leimoja. Teen vain taidetta ja yritän välttää kategorioita, koska teen yksinkertaisesti sitä mitä teen. Taide vie minut ympäri maailmaa ja antaa mahdollisuuden luoda yhteyksiä ihmisiin kaikkialla missä käyn!
Miten pysyt luovana?
Mitä tulee taiteen tilanteeseen ja siihen kukoistaako se, uskon että se riippuu siitä energiasta jonka yksilö siihen laittaa. Tärkeintä minulle on pysyä inspiroituneena yhteyden ja muiden ihmisten kanssa toimimisen kautta. Jotta voimme kehittyä, meidän täytyy olla vuorovaikutuksessa muiden ihmisten ja taiteilijoiden kanssa.
Pysyn inspiroituneena matkustamisen, sattumanvaraisuuden seikkailun ja uusien asioiden kokemisen liikkeen kautta. Myös lukeminen inspiroi minua.
Kuinka monen artistin ja brändin kanssa olet työskennellyt vuosien aikana?
En tiedä kuinka monen artistin tai brändin kanssa olen työskennellyt 🙂 Mutta sen tiedän, että rakastan sitä ja rakastan hetkien sekä luovan prosessin jakamista hyvien ihmisten kanssa. Luulen, että aloin luoda yhteyksiä jo nuorena. Pelatessani jalkapalloa lapsena opin tiimityötä, ja yhdessä voittamisen ajatus on vienyt minua eteenpäin. En ole erityisen henkinen ihminen. En meditoi — ehkä pitäisi — mutta rehellisesti sanottuna luulen olevani aika “real shit”.
Tuletko takaisin Suomeen?
Totta kai tulen takaisin Suomeen! Ehkä Leville tai tutkimaan jotain muuta paikkaa kuten Rovaniemeä. Haluan tutkia uusia paikkoja.
Interview in english
Lucas Beaufort arrived to Finland for the last installment of the common line tour. After eight destinations on the road shredding with 100:s of riders ,collaborations & sessions of painting he arrived to Levi. What followed was two days of intense creative energy, high energy vibes and a good discussion about the core values of snowboarding. Somehow it seems like Lucas brings out the best in people if it is a natural way of connecting people, sharing his thoughts or hypeing people up to do tricks on a board.The outcome is the same: he pushes people to act and create freely without judgement.. It was a very refreshing energy to be in for two days.
Where were you born:
I was born in Cannes in the French Riviera in 1981.
Where your parents artistic?
My dad doesn’t do art but my mum always painted landscapes in oil.
Even though I liked what she was painting I was not into landscape painting as I was more into skateboarding and the aesthetic of the counter culture.
When did you start to create art?
I started to paint super late at 27, don’t ask me why 🙂 It was Christmas time and I wanted to create something for my brother.
I drew a picture and framed it and everything snowballed from there. Some one saw it and social media happened and everything developed quickly.
When did you start snowboarding?
I started snowboarding as a teenager in 1995 from skateboarding. I started skating in 1994 and snowboarding came soon afer.here was a tiny shop called LSD and I saw a snowboard and did not understand what it was.
I used to hitch-hike to the resort and build my own kickers because I could not afford the tickets.
Who were your inspiration as a teenager in the snowboard culture?
My inspiration growing up was the local riders and people. In both art and snowboarding I looked up to the people around me .
The first snowboarder I remember was Terje and I saw Subjekt Haakonsen from Volcom . It blew my mind as it was so crazy and stylish. It really blew my mind!
How would you describe your art?
I don’t like to label my art and put it into a a box. I am making art and I try to avoid labels as I just do what I do. Art takes me around the world and gives me a chance to create connections with people everywhere I go!
How do you stay creative?
Regarding the situation of art and If it is thriving I guess it depend on the individual energy you put into it. The most important thing for me is to stay inspired through connection and involvement with other people. In order to evolve we need to engage with other people and artists.
Stay inspired through my travels, the adventure of the randomness and movement of experiencing new things. I also read.
How many artists and brands have you worked with over the years?
I don’t know how many artists or brands I have worked with .) But what I do know is that I looove that and I love sharing moments and the creative aspect with good people.
I think I started to connect at a young age. Playing soccer as a kid I learned team work and working together to win has driven me forward.
I am not reallöy spiritual. I don’t meditate, maybe I should but honestly I think I am real shit.
Will you come back to Finland?
Of course I will come back to Finland! Maybe Levi or to explore another place like Rovaniemi! I want to explore new places.
